Sermon Note (3rd svc)

Pastor Prince

The story of Job through the lens of grace

Sermon from 21 July 2013

God is a good God. He loves you.

God loves us so much. He did not need to give up Jesus to die for our sin and He did.

God has made a plan. God is a holy God.

God is holy in all He does. God is self-sacrificing and we see the cross.

God loves us without a cause. God loves us because of Him. He is good to us because He is good. Our rejoicing must be in Him.

By Christ died for our sins the holiness of God that took our sin and laid it on Christ.

Without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness of sin.

There will come one Lamb without sin. Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.

Every man has sin in their blood. Therefore the virgin birth.

He that was with God in the beginning. The mystery of 3 in 1 and 1 in 3

Jesus came down.

God cannot have human blood determine the Baby.

God is just and He cannot compromise His justice.

Because of the cross, the innocent died for us.

If God reject the sinner, God is saying what Jesus did at the cross is a waste.

God never make a mistake in His word and deed.

God does not have to repent.

God sent Jesus for this purpose. His holiness is magnified.

Someone who sins must die! And Jesus died on the cross for us!

Jesus is the Lawyer who represent us for 2000 years!

God is righteous who make us righteous.

There is no other way. Sin must be punished and have been punished in the body of Christ. This is how serious and terrible sin is. This also show God’s ℓσνє. It was His Son who died.

God is righteous in making us righteous.

If u have a terrible criminal in front of you and u r the judge. Supposing u have ℓσνє in your heart for him, compassion for him, not because of what he did, but who you are. U want to take his place! This is super weird. And on top of that you want to give him your estates and riches!

There is one! This is God. This is Him! He loves us. He loves sinners and gave His Son to die for us.

God is for the world and provided a ransom for them.

The story of Job. The truth that God is unveiling in this book.

The book of Job is part of Wisdom books.

The wisdom is not english poetry but hebrew poetry.

Job 1:1-3

Job and His Family in Uz

There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was blameless and upright, and one who feared God and shunned evil. And seven sons and three daughters were born to him. Also, his possessions were seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, five hundred yoke of oxen, five hundred female donkeys, and a very large household, so that this man was the greatest of all the people of the East.

Job was a man who was blameless and upright and fear God and shunned evil.

There is a teaching that if you through something bad, you have sinned.

Many things happened to Job (his sufferings was 9 months)

Job most likely lived before Abraham.

Job’s truth is not about Israel.

Israel is God’s covenant people after Abraham.

The law was not yet given to Israel at that point of time.

Being the oldest book in the Bible u find scientific facts there.

God hangs the earth upon nothing.

God who created inspired them to write it.

Man is known by his hands (fingerprints)

Condensation was talked about in the Book of Job.

There is a southern cross in the sky. When u find the cross u find your way home.

We are upright blameless, perfect in Christ (not of ourselves)

There is root to be dealt with.

Our number 1 root to remove from our lives –

Self-righteousness.

God has dealings (disciplines, but not to harm us)

God allowed in the book of Job.

The Lord allowed a certain movement to bring out the root of self righteousness in Job.

God loves us. He will deal with self-righteousness.

We have a Meditator, Jesus! One of our own who made it to heaven.

Gloried and perfect Man

Jesus became a Man for us.

Job came before God

God did not have a Defence Counsel between Job and Him at that time.

The place devil had a place of access belonged to Adam.

Devil knew God loves Job and if he hurt Job he will hurt God.

This thing won’t happen to us because we have Defence Counsel Jesus.

Job lost all his possessions in one day.

He lost all his children in one day.

He covered with boils from his feet to his head.

Blow after blow happened to Job.

These are acts of devil, not of God.

Diseases come from hell and healing comes from heaven

(Healing is from head to the feet)

In heaven there is no hospital.

When we go through our trials, see with right perspective

James 5:11

Indeed we count them blessed who endure. You have heard of the perseverance of Job and seen the end intended by the Lord—that the Lord is very compassionate and merciful.

U don’t acknowledge God, God step back.

The 3 friends came to Job.

The moment they came, satan was no longer mentioned. They did the job of the devil.

The arguments were not wrong but wrongly applied to Job.

Make sure the truth you share is in season.

Job 4:7-9

“Remember now, who ever perished being innocent?

Or where were the upright ever cut off?

Even as I have seen,

Those who plow iniquity

And sow trouble reap the same.

By the blast of God they perish,

And by the breath of His anger they are consumed.

There are trials and the more Godly you are, you will suffer persecution

Don’t be persecuted for being a devil doer.

His friend argued from experience.

There is only one thing that can give you truth. That is Bible!

Job 8:8-13

“For inquire, please, of the former age,

And consider the things discovered by their fathers;

For we were born yesterday, and know nothing,

Because our days on earth are a shadow.

Will they not teach you and tell you,

And utter words from their heart?

“Can the papyrus grow up without a marsh?

Can the reeds flourish without water?

While it is yet green and not cut down,

It withers before any other plant.

So are the paths of all who forget God;

And the hope of the hypocrite shall perish,

He argued from tradition.

It was almost like the devil is talking from their mouth.

Job 11:13-17

“If you would prepare your heart,

And stretch out your hands toward Him;

If iniquity were in your hand, and you put it far away,

And would not let wickedness dwell in your tents;

Then surely you could lift up your face without spot;

Yes, you could be steadfast, and not fear;

Because you would forget your misery,

And remember it as waters that have passed away,

And your life would be brighter than noonday.

Though you were dark, you would be like the morning.

He argued from legality

All scriptures is inspired of God but not all scriptures is written to us. Learn to rightly divide.

Number 42 means completion.

42nd generation is Christ’s generation

Eliphaz – from experience

Bildad – from tradition

Zophar – from legality

Job 29

Job got so angry

He referred to himself over 40 times

If you want to bring someone to humanity before God and know the source of his blessing, you cannot argue from experience, tradition and legality.

Jesus’ death and resurrection saved us.

Meditate on the price He paid.

Don’t kill each other over tradition.

In chapter 29, he mentioned God only 5 times and over 40 times he mentioned himself.

He was kind to the poor but the language became bitter.

Job 16:1-4

Job Reproaches His Pitiless Friends

Then Job answered and said:

“I have heard many such things;

Miserable comforters are you all!

Shall words of wind have an end?

Or what provokes you that you answer?

I also could speak as you do,

If your soul were in my soul’s place.

I could heap up words against you,

And shake my head at you;

Job 19:1-6

Job Trusts in His Redeemer

Then Job answered and said:

“How long will you torment my soul,

And break me in pieces with words?

These ten times you have reproached me;

You are not ashamed that you have wronged me.

And if indeed I have erred,

My error remains with me.

If indeed you exalt yourselves against me,

And plead my disgrace against me,

Know then that God has wronged me,

And has surrounded me with His net.

God was not his problem, satan was.

What is it about us that we rather justify ourselves and condemn God?

David when he sinned, he justified God.

Job was 50% wrong. He said the Lord give and the Lord take.

When God gives us salvation, it is eternal

God said of Job that he did not speak right of Him.

The young prophet was angry with Job.

Job 32:4-9

Now because they were years older than he, Elihu had waited to speak to Job. When Elihu saw that there was no answer in the mouth of these three men, his wrath was aroused.

So Elihu, the son of Barachel the Buzite, answered and said:

“I am young in years, and you are very old;

Therefore I was afraid,

And dared not declare my opinion to you.

I said, ‘Age should speak,

And multitude of years should teach wisdom.’

But there is a spirit in man,

And the breath of the Almighty gives him understanding.

Great men are not always wise,

Nor do the aged always understand justice.

Elihu is a type of Christ. The go-between.

When he spoke, Job never answered or argued with Elihu.

Those who are suffering, the devil will point to a sin years ago.

Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law.

If you are sick, know it is not God’s will.

Job became super healthy and lived to 120.

Job 33:23-25

“If there is a messenger for him,

A mediator, one among a thousand,

To show man His uprightness,

Then He is gracious to him, and says,

‘Deliver him from going down to the Pit;

I have found a ransom’; (atonement)

His flesh shall be young like a child’s,

He shall return to the days of his youth.

It is not about him, but about Him, the Lord Jesus!

God’s righteousness comes to man as a gift!

The price for your health, good lives, days of heaven upon the earth, good marriage, is because God has found a ransom!

I have found a ransom! I will heal you and your flesh will be young again!

Job 38:1-5

The Lord Reveals His Omnipotence to Job

(Gen. 1:1–10)

Then the Lord answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said:

“Who is this who darkens counsel

By words without knowledge?

Now prepare yourself like a man;

I will question you, and you shall answer Me.

“Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth?

Tell Me, if you have understanding.

Who determined its measurements?

Surely you know!

Or who stretched the line upon it?

Who can be like God? His wisdom is perfect. His compassion never fails!

Job 40:8

“Would you indeed annul My judgment?

Would you condemn Me that you may be justified?

The bible will outlast you.

Everyone will breathe their last.

All your accomplishments come to nothing. The best thing in this life is to know Him.

With God, the devil has no match.

Satan is always a loser.

Satan tried to attack Job and ended up meeting God

Satan thought the cross was his achievement. In the end the cross became the instrument to save all of us.

He always meet up with a mighty God.

God always showed up.

When people are in unbelief, they believe themselves more than God.

Learn to agree with God.

When bad thoughts come, you are not shocked.

In your flesh dwells no good thing.

If God justifies you, who can condemn you?

Job 42:1-6

Job’s Repentance and Restoration

Then Job answered the Lord and said:

“I know that You can do everything,

And that no purpose of Yours can be withheld from You.

You asked, Who is this who hides counsel without knowledge?’

Therefore I have uttered what I did not understand,

Things too wonderful for me, which I did not know.

Listen, please, and let me speak;

You said, I will question you, and you shall answer Me.’

“I have heard of You by the hearing of the ear,

But now my eye sees You.

Therefore I abhor myself,

And repent in dust and ashes.”

We know about God through second hand. Through what people said.

But now Job’s eye sees God.

It is not how big the lamp stand is, it is the weight.

Lamp stand depicts church. It is not how big the church is.

Job condemned himself before God.

There is no self-made man. It is always someone helping and at the source of it all, God.

Only one good, God!

Experience aggressive peace and joy.

Thank God for all the small things. Thankfulness of small things demonstrate our indebted to God.

God restored Job’s losses when he prayed for his friends. God gave Job twice as much as he had before.

Job 42:12-13

Now the Lord blessed the latter days of Job more than his beginning; for he had fourteen thousand sheep, six thousand camels, one thousand yoke of oxen, and one thousand female donkeys. He also had seven sons and three daughters.

God blessed with quantity and quality

Job 42:15-17

In all the land were found no women so beautiful as the daughters of Job; and their father gave them an inheritance among their brothers.

After this Job lived one hundred and forty years, and saw his children and grandchildren for four generations. So Job died, old and full of days.

Ask God for beauty and favour!

The Lord is very compassionate.

You are going through the trials, there is an ending.

Pray to God, “Lord you are right and i am wrong. Whatever i am is from you!”
