Sermon Note

Pastor Prince

Abraham is righteous by faith. His conduct is not righteous. He lied twice about his wife but he did not stay in his lies. He was grateful when God billed him out. He appreciated what God did for him.

We do fall here and there but we don’t live in it.

We might fall into sin but we don’t live there

Genesis 13:1-4

Abram Inherits Canaan

Then Abram went up from Egypt, he and his wife and all that he had, and Lot with him, to the South. Abram was very rich in livestock, in silver, and in gold. And he went on his journey from the South as far as Bethel, to the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Bethel and Ai, to the place of the altar which he had made there at first. And there Abram called on the name of the LORD.

You don’t find Lot praying in the bible.

Abraham has a heart for God.

Pastor Prince choose people who has a heart for God.

Gift and calling can come later.

Jacob and Esau were twin. Esau was the heir of first born blessing but he had no heart for the first born blessing. Jacob had the heart for first born blessing. Although Jacob did it wrongly to get the blessing.

Is God’s grace that bring us to church. Lets be grateful people are coming to church.

Lot had no heart for God.

Genesis 13:5-7

Lot also, who went with Abram, had flocks and herds and tents. Now the land was not able to support them, that they might dwell together, for their possessions were so great that they could not dwell together. And there was strife between the herdsmen of Abram’s livestock and the herdsmen of Lot’s livestock. The Canaanites and the Perizzites then dwelt in the land.

Lot is blessed by association.

Do you want to be blessed by association or be blessed directly?

We all want to be like Abraham.

Have the heart that Christ is glorified in our lives.

Don’t let anyone rush you or push you.

Genesis 13:8-12

So Abram said to Lot, “Please let there be no strife between you and me, and between my herdsmen and your herdsmen; for we are brethren. Is not the whole land before you? Please separate from me. If you take the left, then I will go to the right; or, if you go to the right, then I will go to the left.”

And Lot lifted his eyes and saw all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered everywhere (before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah) like the garden of the LORD, like the land of Egypt as you go toward Zoar. Then Lot chose for himself all the plain of Jordan, and Lot journeyed east. And they separated from each other. Abram dwelt in the land of Canaan, and Lot dwelt in the cities of the plain and pitched his tent even as far as Sodom.

What are you doing at home? Do you know what your children are watching or on the internet? What you and your children are reading? Are you pitching your tent at Sodom?

Abraham was up there on the mountain fellowship with God breathing fresh air

When God corrects you, do you feel loved? Yes! U feel God cares to correct you.

Sodom and Gomorrah was the lowest place.

Which kind of believers do u want?

When you trust God you get so much

God gave Abraham the victory.

Do you lie to get your way ? Do you trust God to get your things done?

What kind of man you want to be? Abraham or Lot?

What kind of righteous man are we?

Genesis 1:1-2

The History of Creation

(Gen. 2:4–9; Job 38:4–11; John 1:1–5)

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.

High cost of low life.

It is wonderful to breathe the fresh air of faith up there at the mountain never have to worry about the consequences of sin.

Lets not be like Lot.

It is always the God of Abraham.

Lot came and visit Abraham and enjoyed life with Abraham.

Genesis 19:1

Sodom’s Depravity

Now the two angels came to Sodom in the evening, and Lot was sitting in the gate of Sodom. When Lot saw them, he rose to meet them, and he bowed himself with his face toward the ground.

Genesis 19:12-17

Sodom and Gomorrah Destroyed

(Matt. 11:23, 24; Luke 17:28–32)

Then the men said to Lot, “Have you anyone else here? Son-in-law, your sons, your daughters, and whomever you have in the city—take them out of this place! For we will destroy this place, because the outcry against them has grown great before the face of the LORD, and the LORD has sent us to destroy it.”

So Lot went out and spoke to his sons-in-law, who had married his daughters, and said, “Get up, get out of this place; for the LORD will destroy this city!” But to his sons-in-law he seemed to be joking.

When the morning dawned, the angels urged Lot to hurry, saying, “Arise, take your wife and your two daughters who are here, lest you be consumed in the punishment of the city.” And while he lingered, the men took hold of his hand, his wife’s hand, and the hands of his two daughters, the LORD being merciful to him, and they brought him out and set him outside the city. So it came to pass, when they had brought them outside, that he said, “Escape for your life! Do not look behind you nor stay anywhere in the plain. Escape to the mountains, lest you be destroyed.”

God will come into your mess and bring you out.

He lingered, but the angels took hold of him! God is merciful!

Abraham has been in the high place of moral elevation

You are righteous by faith

God did everything God can and asked Lot not to look back.

Remember Lot’s wife.

Don’t look back. We have the tendency to look back.

Genesis 19:26-30

But his wife looked back behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.

And Abraham went early in the morning to the place where he had stood before the LORD. Then he looked toward Sodom and Gomorrah, and toward all the land of the plain; and he saw, and behold, the smoke of the land which went up like the smoke of a furnace. And it came to pass, when God destroyed the cities of the plain, that God remembered Abraham, and sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow, when He overthrew the cities in which Lot had dwelt.

The Descendants of Lot

Then Lot went up out of Zoar and dwelt in the mountains, and his two daughters were with him; for he was afraid to dwell in Zoar. And he and his two daughters dwelt in a cave.

In the two daughters mentality is there is no more men left. Lack mentality.

Don’t lower your standard. There is still men. One man !

You got to be the moral authority at home for your children.

Abraham followed God.

Never trust the flesh.

Lot started with not having his own faith in God’s goodness.

Abraham fought with the king and conquered the king.

Genesis 14:16-23

So he brought back all the goods, and also brought back his brother Lot and his goods, as well as the women and the people.

And the king of Sodom went out to meet him at the Valley of Shaveh (that is, the King’s Valley), after his return from the defeat of Chedorlaomer and the kings who were with him.

Abram and Melchizedek

(Heb. 7:1, 2)

Then Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine; he was the priest of God Most High. And he blessed him and said:

“Blessed be Abram of God Most High,

Possessor of heaven and earth;

And blessed be God Most High,

Who has delivered your enemies into your hand.”

And he gave him a tithe of all.

Now the king of Sodom said to Abram, “Give me the persons, and take the goods for yourself.”

But Abram said to the king of Sodom, “I have raised my hand to the LORD, God Most High, the Possessor of heaven and earth, that I will take nothing, from a thread to a sandal strap, and that I will not take anything that is yours, lest you should say, ‘I have made Abram rich’—

Why did he make his appearance here?

King of Sodom came to tempt Abraham. It was this time he needed God.

When we are tired, we are empty in our fuel. What little temptation we fall into sin.

Jesus came with Bread and Wine to fill us up again.

That is the reason why Melchizedek made his appearance now.

LORD, God Most High, the Possessor of heaven and earth

Abraham responded with the tithe

Lot had no moral compass. The moment he was separated from Abraham, he had no one to lean on.

It all started with not trusting God is good.

Lets trust God’s way. Righteous by faith, heart for God

How many want to be blessed with everything?

Abraham enjoyed family life, every blessings from God. He lead the high life. Whenever he fell, God billed him out and he appreciated God.

Be like David.

Psalms 23:6

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me

All the days of my life;

And I will dwell in the house of the LORD

Forever.

SURELY! SURELY!

SURELY GOODNESS AND MERCY SHALL FOLLOW YOU ALL THE DAYS OF YOUR LIFE!
