Sermon note

Pastor Lawrence

Zechariah 9:9

“Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion!

Shout, O daughter of Jerusalem!

Behold, your King is coming to you;

He is just and having salvation,

Lowly and riding on a donkey,

A colt, the foal of a donkey.

He came riding on donkey. Here Jesus was riding on a donkey. Though king, He is different from all other kings. Our king, our servant King, He chose to display Himself as a person of meek and lowly.

Your devotion to Him is not because of how powerful He is but how gentle He is.

He came to as Servant to serve us. He has totally won our hearts.

We are drawn to worship and adore Him because of what He has done for us. We loved because He first loved us.

Our Lord is beautiful, altogether lovely. Our Beloved is the most beautiful. No one compare with Him.

He emptied Himself to become a Man.

He was obedient to the point of death

Matthew 11:28-30

Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

There is a rest when you learn from the Lord

He is gentle -> lowly, meek

He is lowly and gentle. If we learn this from Him we will find rest for our souls.

There is a rest that He gives to us and also a rest when we learn from Him

Luke 2:42-52

And when He was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem according to the custom of the feast. When they had finished the days, as they returned, the Boy Jesus lingered behind in Jerusalem. And Joseph and His mother did not know it; but supposing Him to have been in the company, they went a day’s journey, and sought Him among their relatives and acquaintances. So when they did not find Him, they returned to Jerusalem, seeking Him. Now so it was that after three days they found Him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, both listening to them and asking them questions. And all who heard Him were astonished at His understanding and answers. So when they saw Him, they were amazed; and His mother said to Him, “Son, why have You done this to us? Look, Your father and I have sought You anxiously.”

And He said to them, “Why did you seek Me? Did you not know that I must be about My Father’s business?” But they did not understand the statement which He spoke to them.

Jesus Advances in Wisdom and Favor

Then He went down with them and came to Nazareth, and was subject to them, but His mother kept all these things in her heart. And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.

The Father’s business is to die on the cross for the sin of men

He always have us in the mind

His mission in life was to pay for the price of our sin. He has paid in full

The Lord Jesus was subjected to His parents. He did not need to but He did. He increased in wisdom.

He has wisdom before His years. He was not ordinary boy.

How to increase in wisdom? By humbling yourselves and subject to the authority placed in your lives.

How did you come into favour with men?

Subject yourselves to the people around us

Submit to one another in the fear of God

God has made it such that all of us dun have it altogether.

God places people in our lives and we need to learn to listen to them.

Even the Lord is willing to subject to His parents

Proverbs 11:2

When pride comes, then comes shame;

But with the humble is wisdom.

We don’t have it altogether. We need to listen to those around us.

King Solomon had a dream when he was crowned king

He asked for hearing heart because he told the Lord he is like a child, not knowing how to go in and come out. He asked for hearing heart is because of his humility

This speech pleased the Lord

God gave him riches and honour which he did not ask for

Wisdom comes from another person. Many times your spouse

Acts 8:27-31

So he arose and went. And behold, a man of Ethiopia, a eunuch of great authority under Candace the queen of the Ethiopians, who had charge of all her treasury, and had come to Jerusalem to worship, was returning. And sitting in his chariot, he was reading Isaiah the prophet. Then the Spirit said to Philip, “Go near and overtake this chariot.”

So Philip ran to him, and heard him reading the prophet Isaiah, and said, “Do you understand what you are reading?”

And he said, “How can I, unless someone guides me?” And he asked Philip to come up and sit with him.

Just because you are good and running a business does not mean you understand the bible, you need help.

He is a man of great authority but when he could not understand the bible he was willing to ask for help

May we learn to subject ourselves to opinions of others but of course not every opinion

Matthew 3:13-17

John Baptizes Jesus

(Mark 1:9–11; Luke 3:21, 22; John 1:29–34)

Then Jesus came from Galilee to John at the Jordan to be baptized by him. And John tried to prevent Him, saying, “I need to be baptized by You, and are You coming to me?”

But Jesus answered and said to him, “Permit it to be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he allowed Him.

When He had been baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon Him. And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”

John knew he could not baptise the Lord

The Lord submitted Himself to John the Baptist

The holy spirit came upon him. The audio voice was heard

Daniel 9:24-27

“Seventy weeks are determined

For your people and for your holy city,

To finish the transgression,

To make an end of sins,

To make reconciliation for iniquity,

To bring in everlasting righteousness,

To seal up vision and prophecy,

And to anoint the Most Holy.

“Know therefore and understand,

That from the going forth of the command

To restore and build Jerusalem

Until Messiah the Prince,

There shall be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks;

The street shall be built again, and the wall,

Even in troublesome times.

“And after the sixty-two weeks

Messiah shall be cut off, but not for Himself;

And the people of the prince who is to come

Shall destroy the city and the sanctuary.

The end of it shall be with a flood,

And till the end of the war desolations are determined.

Then he shall confirm a covenant with many for one week;

But in the middle of the week

He shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering.

And on the wing of abominations shall be one who makes desolate,

Even until the consummation, which is determined,

Is poured out on the desolate.”

70 weeks are determined

Specific prophesy

Week : shabua

Week literally means 7 years

Genesis 29:27

Fulfill her week, and we will give you this one also for the service which you will serve with me still another seven years.”

1 week = 7 years

70 weeks means 70 x 70 years

490 years

Reference to the second coming of the Lord

God will resolve the fallen world at the end of 490 years

There will be a command to restore and build Jerusalem

490 years to bring in everlasting righteousness

Nehemiah 2:1-8

Nehemiah Sent to Judah

And it came to pass in the month of Nisan, in the twentieth year of King Artaxerxes, when wine was before him, that I took the wine and gave it to the king. Now I had never been sad in his presence before. Therefore the king said to me, “Why is your face sad, since you are not sick? This is nothing but sorrow of heart.”

So I became dreadfully afraid, and said to the king, “May the king live forever! Why should my face not be sad, when the city, the place of my fathers’ tombs, lies waste, and its gates are burned with fire?”

Then the king said to me, “What do you request?”

So I prayed to the God of heaven. And I said to the king, “If it pleases the king, and if your servant has found favor in your sight, I ask that you send me to Judah, to the city of my fathers’ tombs, that I may rebuild it.”

Then the king said to me (the queen also sitting beside him), “How long will your journey be? And when will you return?” So it pleased the king to send me; and I set him a time.

Furthermore I said to the king, “If it pleases the king, let letters be given to me for the governors of the region beyond the River, that they must permit me to pass through till I come to Judah, and a letter to Asaph the keeper of the king’s forest, that he must give me timber to make beams for the gates of the citadel which pertains to the temple, for the city wall, and for the house that I will occupy.” And the king granted them to me according to the good hand of my God upon me.

Their King came, riding on the donkey

Luke 19:43-44

For days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment around you, surround you and close you in on every side, and level you, and your children within you, to the ground; and they will not leave in you one stone upon another, because you did not know the time of your visitation.”

If we can trust the word of angel, how can we not trust the word of the Lord

The final 7 years is yet to come. The church will be raptured

Age of the gospel of grace

Gentile believers can become the sons and daughters of the most high God

God is not counting the people’s sins against them

Reconciliation with God

Today your sins have forgiven you

Today you stand on God’s grace!

You are the beloved of God

There is no greater love than this. He will give His life for us.
