Sermon Note

Pastor Prince

Law is to bring to every mouth may be stopped and all the world may become guilty before God

Romans 3:19-20

Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. Therefore by the deeds of the law no flesh will be justified in His sight, for by the law is the knowledge of sin.

Grace reveals who God is

Law is a segment of God’s demand as a righteous God

Perfect – thoroughly complete and equipped

In the Old Testament is you do to become

In the new, we are now complete in Christ.

We start with complete in Christ and we walk out as one

Sin can have no dominion over us

Romans 6:14

For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace.

Under grace, grace supplies

Law is man working

Grace is God supplying and doing for man

The letter kills. The letter still kills you today

2 Corinthians 3:6-7

who has made us sufficient to be ministers of a new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit. For the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.

Now if the ministry of death, carved in letters on stone, came with such glory that the Israelites could not gaze at Moses’ face because of its glory, which was being brought to an end,

He calls the law the ministry of death

This letter is same as verse 6

When the law came, sin increased

Grace produces true holiness

Grace is all about heart transformation

The law is ministry of death

Condemnation on themselves or from others all come from the law. The law the ministry of condemnation and ministry of death

The life of grace is a life of glorifying God

Holiness that draws people to Jesus

The Old Testament is a ministry of condemnation. They were under the law. The law cannot be condemn when they come short of it.

Elisha (means my God saves) is a ministry of grace – his ministry had double miracle of Elijah

Elijah is a prophet of judgement

(Before there is no rain, it is as if God gave the prophet the choice)

1 Kings 17:1

Elijah Proclaims a Drought

And Elijah the Tishbite, of the inhabitants of Gilead, said to Ahab, “As the LORD God of Israel lives, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, except at my word.”

James 5:17-18

Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months. And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit.

Lamentations 3:33

For He does not afflict willingly,

Nor grieve the children of men.

Romans 11:2-5

God has not cast away His people whom He foreknew. Or do you not know what the Scripture says of Elijah, how he pleads with God against Israel, saying, “LORD, they have killed Your prophets and torn down Your altars, and I alone am left, and they seek my life”? But what does the divine response say to him? “I have reserved for Myself seven thousand men who have not bowed the knee to Baal.” Even so then, at this present time there is a remnant according to the election of grace.

God rebuked Elijah. He justified himself and condemned Israel

1 Kings 19:16

Also you shall anoint Jehu the son of Nimshi as king over Israel. And Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abel Meholah you shall anoint as prophet in your place.

God does not want to show judgement

His heart is not into it.

God wanted Elijah to know that

His ministry was to call people back to the law

Luke 9:29

As He prayed, the appearance of His face was altered, and His robe became white and glistening.

Moses was a representation of the law

Elijah representation of prophets

Peter was putting Jesus (grace) as the same level as the law and prophet

Bright cloud – a time of grace

The Father said this is My beloved, listen to Him (Jesus)

The law has been replaced by God’s grace

Hear only One, Jesus, in my our lives

There were many widows in the land of Israel in the days of Elijah

Luke 4:26

But unto none of them was Elias sent, save unto Sarepta, a city of Sidon, unto a woman that was a widow.

Where sin abounds, grace super abounds

The fire did not fall upon the nation. It fell upon the sacrifice, which is a type of Jesus Christ on the cross

God loves us

The fire consumed the 50 soldiers

The world reject Jesus Christ, there is a judgement coming

Romans 5:20

Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound:

Entered – come alongside

It is added to. To the covenant of grace. It was added for a reason

God brought them out by grace

The law came in that the offend might abound, grace did much more abound

Romans 11:2-5

God has not cast away His people whom He foreknew. Or do you not know what the Scripture says of Elijah, how he pleads with God against Israel, saying, “LORD, they have killed Your prophets and torn down Your altars, and I alone am left, and they seek my life”? But what does the divine response say to him? “I have reserved for Myself seven thousand men who have not bowed the knee to Baal.” Even so then, at this present time there is a remnant according to the election of grace.

1 Kings 19:9-13

And there he went into a cave, and spent the night in that place; and behold, the word of the LORD came to him, and He said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”

So he said, “I have been very zealous for the LORD God of hosts; for the children of Israel have forsaken Your covenant, torn down Your altars, and killed Your prophets with the sword. I alone am left; and they seek to take my life.”

God’s Revelation to Elijah

Then He said, “Go out, and stand on the mountain before the LORD.” And behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind tore into the mountains and broke the rocks in pieces before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake; and after the earthquake a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice.

So it was, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle and went out and stood in the entrance of the cave. Suddenly a voice came to him, and said, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”

What are you doing on law ground?

1 Kings 19:10

So he said, “I have been very zealous for the LORD God of hosts; for the children of Israel have forsaken Your covenant, torn down Your altars, and killed Your prophets with the sword. I alone am left; and they seek to take my life.”

Notice the “I” he is justifying himself

Self righteousness. When you justify yourself you condemn others

The law makes you retreat into a cave

1 Kings 19:11-12

God’s Revelation to Elijah

Then He said, “Go out, and stand on the mountain before the LORD.” And behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind tore into the mountains and broke the rocks in pieces before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake; and after the earthquake a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice.

All the punishment will not turn the people back to God

Fire always speak of judgement

After the fire, a still small voice

God was not in the wind, the earthquake, the fire

He is not in all these expressions of judgement

1 Kings 19:13

So it was, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle and went out and stood in the entrance of the cave. Suddenly a voice came to him, and said, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”

The only thing that can bring sinful man to God, is grace. Only grace can bring the most harden sinners

Revelation 16:11

They blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, and did not repent of their deeds.

Punishment cannot turn people’s hearts

The extreme rebellion of man’s hearts

God wanted Elijah to learn

Romans 11:2-5

God has not cast away His people whom He foreknew. Or do you not know what the Scripture says of Elijah, how he pleads with God against Israel, saying, “LORD, they have killed Your prophets and torn down Your altars, and I alone am left, and they seek my life”? But what does the divine response say to him? “I have reserved for Myself seven thousand men who have not bowed the knee to Baal.” Even so then, at this present time there is a remnant according to the election of grace.

Luke 9:52-56

and sent messengers before His face. And as they went, they entered a village of the Samaritans, to prepare for Him. But they did not receive Him, because His face was set for the journey to Jerusalem. And when His disciples James and John saw this, they said, “Lord, do You want us to command fire to come down from heaven and consume them, just as Elijah did?”

But He turned and rebuked them, and said, “You do not know what manner of spirit you are of. For the Son of Man did not come to destroy men’s lives but to save them.” And they went to another village.

We cannot carry the spirit of Old Testament in us today

You do not know what spirit you are of.

Jesus does not approve of the spirit of Elijah

1 Corinthians 14:3

But he who prophesies speaks edification and exhortation and comfort to men.

Today if you prophesies, it is calling near (exhortation)

Today the prophets speak of edification, exhortation and comfort

New Testament ministry is to edification, exhortation and comfort

Exhort one another daily

Encourage one another

Matthew 11:13

For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John.

The ministry of condemnation ended with John. John means God’s grace

We study the old covenant

Bring forth the treasure of the old because of the new.

Luke 24:27

And beginning at Moses and all the Prophets, He expounded to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself.

Bring forth the old because of the new

Numbers 30:13-16

Every vow and every binding oath to afflict her soul, her husband may confirm it, or her husband may make it void. Now if her husband makes no response whatever to her from day to day, then he confirms all her vows or all the agreements that bind her; he confirms them, because he made no response to her on the day that he heard them. But if he does make them void after he has heard them, then he shall bear her guilt.”

These are the statutes which the LORD commanded Moses, between a man and his wife, and between a father and his daughter in her youth in her father’s house.

He shall bear her guilt

The woman here is Israel or the church

In order for Him to redeem Israel and us out of the law, Jesus had to die on the cross.

Galatians 3:13

Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”),

Jesus not only died to bear our sins away, He died on the cross (on the tree) is to fulfil the fact we are not longer under the law and He borne the curse for us.

Jesus redeemed us from the curse

God wanted something else to redeem us from the curse of the law

You must do all. If not you are under the curse.

Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law. We are His wife

To keep the law, He had to bear our guilt

What will bring the sinners out of his place of hiding, is that still small voice. The message of grace

Only the goodness of God will bring people to their repentance

2 Corinthians 3:7-9

Now if the ministry of death, carved in letters on stone, came with such glory that the Israelites could not gaze at Moses’ face because of its glory, which was being brought to an end, will not the ministry of the Spirit have even more glory? For if there was glory in the ministry of condemnation, the ministry of righteousness must far exceed it in glory.

The glory of Moses was going off.

We all with unveiled face beholding the glory of God

The veil was on Moses’ face

2 Corinthians 3:12-18

Since we have such a hope, we are very bold, not like Moses, who would put a veil over his face so that the Israelites might not gaze at the outcome of what was being brought to an end. But their minds were hardened. For to this day, when they read the old covenant, that same veil remains unlifted, because only through Christ is it taken away. Yes, to this day whenever Moses is read a veil lies over their hearts. But when one turns to the Lord, the veil is removed. Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.

Our sins are gone. All the lights on His face says our sins are gone. No more curse over our lives. The more we see Jesus the more we are transformed in His glory

You have the gift of righteousness to stand before God

Only grace can save

Don’t be a mixed up minister

Those that are well don’t need a doctor. Only those who are sick

You must put new wine into new wineskin

He is talking about the new covenant

What man calls balance, Jesus calls mixture

You are either under law or under grace

Law is ministry of death

The more we teach grace the more life is imparted. All the dead spot come alive

Condemnation kills.

The spirit gives life.

Even though you mean well to your family, if you are under law you are bring death

Without the grace of God, you cannot shine

Your health will spring forth speedily when you are under grace and not under law.

Those who are of faith are blessed.
